Antique Bronze 1907 USLSS Life Saving Cannon for Throwing Line -

This is an antique Bronze Throwing line cannon from 1907 and signed HUNT Life Saving, Weymouth,MA #41. The wood base measures 41x9.5 inches. The bronze cannon measures 21 inches in length, 2.5 inches in diameter hole, overall 3.5 inches in diameter. The cast iron base is 15x6 inches. Overall length with the cast iron base is 33 inches. The cannon moves up and down in position and works perfectly. The old Life Savers would have put a rope line inside the cannon and shoot it over the boat so the people on the boat could get the line and tie it to the ship and the slide down the rope to shore. The cannon is original finish and condition, it has a number of dents to the top area from use at one time. This came out of a South Shore of Boston Estate but we are not sure what life saving station it originally came from. These are pretty rare to find. It is easy to carry with the 2 handle wood base but definitely takes 2 people
